How do materials and textures influence our perception of a space in which surfaces are primarily designed for tactile stimuli? The question arises for example in research for material design for future automotive interiors. Nowadays these are primarily conceived visually. Their large number of controls and design elements results in a complex, often overloaded appearance.

But what about the sense of touch? Tactio is the material vision of a “naked” dashboard with no controls but instead sensitive displays. The highly sensitive touch sensors in our fingertips are stimulated by microstructures. Tactile feedback produces an unfamiliar but intense human-object interaction: After all, touching an object also means being touched by the object.
